Volunteers play a pivotal role
in our group and we are always looking for new helpers. Perhaps
you have lost someone close, or have any other reason to have a
special interest.
All Members of the Committee are volunteers, with people giving
up their free time for the benefit of others and we offer a warm
welcome to anyone who comes along to help.
The amount of time you wish to commit is entirely up to you.
There's no set levels and you can volunteer as much or as little
time as you like. We fit in with your normal routine, not the other
way around and to us, every minute is a bonus!
We are always on the look out for .....
When you're undergoing treatment, the very
last thing you feel like doing is driving or taking public transport.
Taxis can also be prohibitively expensive (e.g. for a patient living
in Walkden, a roundtrip journey to Christies
Hospital can cost in excess of £50.00), so volunteer drivers
are very much in demand by our group simply for taking people to
hospital appointments. If you would like to help please contact
us.
Guest speakers / entertainers help to make
our evening group meetings that little bit more interesting.
If you are such a person, get in contact and let us know what you
do. In the past we have had: flower arranging demonstrations, a
crystal healer, a retired policeman entertaining us with stories
of life on the beat, and the exercise man who always keeps us on
our toes!
We are always looking for new therapists within
the area who are not opposed to offering relaxing complimentary
therapies to cancer patients. Please call us if you are interested
in helping out.
This one goes without saying! As a self funded
group, we rely heaviliy on volunteers to help us raise funds so
that we can support the needs of our group. Car Boot Sales, Charity
Galas, Village Fetes all need manning and organising efficiently.
Any help at all with these activities is most welcome.
| Group Promoters / Advocates |
As a group, we like to keep abreast of local
issues affecting cancer patients and as such attend a variety of
meetings and focus groups led by the NHS and Primary Care Trusts
in the North-West areas.
Having the time to sit and talk may seem overly
simple, but many of our members live alone and miss having someone
to talk to about general everyday things. It really helps to have
someone who you can share your thoughts with. If you feel you'd
be able to offer even just an hour a week, someone would be more
than appreciative.

There are many other
opportunities to help...
This is not an exhaustive list and there will be many more ways
in which you can help. If you have any specific skills that you
feel may be of interest to us, please do not hesitate to talk to
us to see if we can utilise them in some way!
